Speaking exclusively with IndiaToday.in, Sajid Nadiadwala opened up about 'Bawaal's OTT release and mentioned how Martin Scorsese and Ben Affleck opted for a digital route as well.
"This was never intended to be made for digital. It's while making a film and when you see the film once it is completed, that all actors and concerned parties come in and say, 'Can we do it international?' This is how maybe a Naatu Naatu was noticed. Can we take it to that platform? Are we apologetic? Because people may say it's a downer because we are coming on digital. Martin Scorsese is doing it now. Ben Affleck did it with 'Air', There are people doing it. Can we have a simultaneous worldwide? Can we make this attempt? It is a once in a lifetime achievement if it works and people appreciate it," he said.
The producer spoke along the lines of how big producers and filmmakers are making an attempt to go digital. Giving an example of how 'Bawaal' was marketed, Sajid added, "We tried taking them (Varun and Janhvi) to Dubai, getting people's attention. We could do this in India. We moved away to let people know there was something different coming up."
The romantic film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari. Varun Dhawan plays Ajay Dixit, a school teacher from Lucknow, whereas Janhvi plays Nisha, a beautiful yet simple girl who looks for her one true love. 'Bawaal' is co-produced by Sajid Nadiadwala.
